Man oh man oh man. Stumbled on this site after googling Giorgimpopoli & Andalus. Marhaba! Wouldn't Mr. Shawish be proud? This is better than a cold Bepsi at the Saba Shop! Where to start the ramble? Arrived in Tripoli in Nov '64 (4th grade) thru 9th, then off to Herringswell in Bury St Edmunds & my Dad finally left after an F-111 did its' damnedest to take out Mobil Staff Qtrs & the el Azziz barracks.
Hey, David Buleid - are you living in the UK? Loved playing street footie against your garage gate...You'll Never Walk Alone, mate. I look up John Byrne every time I go to London & am in weekly e-contact with the Helmkes. My sister Lisa is alive & well & living in Baja Oklahoma (nee Texas) in Dripping Springs. She went to OCS from K (was there a K?) thru Grade 9, then off to Mallorca.

I was not an alumni of OCS but attended the British Army Childrens School at Miani Barracks, Tripoli, between 1959-1962. Is anyone in touch with Molly Brown? Her husband (?Norman) was our art master. I have read her marvellous account "Libya of My Dreams" presented at the Tripoli Reunion and would like thank her for her memories. I think she and my father were contributors to the "TripDist Gazette" and "The Ghibli" |
